Sorry, but our theatre department is like complete shit. Everyone preaches about hard work and dedication, but those of us who work the boards don’t even get so much as to have our own scripts to be responsible for our own cues. And I don’t give a damn if that’s how they do it in the “real world.” Because I worked in theatres for four years before college, and in that time, I managed to get through 16 full shows, sometimes doing two at a time in different places, and sometimes doing two and three week runs. All the while, I was responsible for the technological designs, programmed cues, and I was responsible for making sure the people who didn’t have as much experience as I did knew how to properly handle equipment, and many of the times, I ran the boards myself. Now that I’m in college, I feel like I’m doing nothing. I do 1 or, at most, 2 shows a season, and a theatrical season runs from August to May. Like, what the hell am I paying all of this money for only to be basically walking backwards.
